Alderley Edge - DCA Handbook page 2:1 (23rd August 2006)
(All sites listed are in the Alderley Edge SSSI.) The regional office of English Nature with responsibility for Alderley Edge is now at Wigan: English Nature, Pier House, Wallgate, Wigan, Lancashire, WN3 4AL. Engine Vein and land between West and Wood Mines are scheduled ancient monuments (SAMs). Liaison with the National Trust, English Heritage and English Nature is normally done by Derbyshire Caving Club - see below.)

BRINLOW MINE, COBALT MINE, ENGINE VEIN, HOUGH LEVEL & WOOD MINE: On National Trust land, with public parking and unrestricted surface access. All entrances gated & kept locked, with underground access controlled exclusively by Derbyshire Caving Club. WEST MINE: Access controlled by DCC by arrangement with landowner through entrance on National Trust land. Guest membership of DCC or BCA green card required.

Neptune Mine, Cressbrook Dale - DCA Handbook page 2:3
It has been reported that Neptune Mine entrance has collapsed. The entrance is in the Derbyshire National Nature Reserve and permission is needed from English nature before any work can be done.

Peak Cavern - DCA Handbook page 2:5
Management permits Sunday only trips between October and Easter. E-mail J.S.Beck at johnbeck@classicfm.net (or write enclosing s.a.e. to Glebe Cottage, The Hillock, Eyam, Derbyshire S32 5RB) giving choice of dates, and details of party. Peak Cavern Ltd. require sight of visiting cavers' Public Liability Insurance certificate. No permission for under 18's. Charge made per head. Parking in village. Meet & change at TSG HQ (The Chapel). Limited access through to Speedwell. See separate conditions for trips via JHOE Mine.

NB. White River Series is subject of Conservation Plan to help protect it from further damage.

GIANTS HOLE - Replace info. on DCA Handbook page 2:7
Notice giving access details at the car park in the valley bottom. Trespass fee to be put in the envelope supplied with car registration number(s) written on it and placed in box by the notice. (Payment by cheque is acceptable - payable to "Peakshill Farm".) Strict speed limit in force on farm road - visitors ignoring it may be turned away. Note: there are no changing facilities at the house or barns.

This entrance has now been gated at the request of the National Trust. Access is by means of an adjustable spanner. Incidentally "the deep flooded shaft on the right" is not on the right - it blocks the passage - it is best passed on the RH side. The collapse is no longer passable.
